3. What is a SILVER SHADED / SILVER SHELL Maine Coon Cat? ​  Silver Shaded/Shell is a color. The Silver Shaded and Silver Shell Maine Coon cats look almost white. Yes--these cats are truly SILVER! Their unique and exquisite color makes them highly desirable. It is only with much difficulty and selective breeding that the pure silver color is achieved. Genetically, a Silver Shaded/Shell Maine Coon Cat is a BLACK CAT. How can breeders make a BLACK cat appear almost white?  Hint: It's not magic!! Breeders achieve this special coloration whenever the silver inhibitor comes up so HIGH onto each hair, that only the "tippy-top" of each hair strand has black pigment.  Breeders must be both selective & intentional in their breeding practices to achieve high quality silver shaded and silver shell color Maine coon kittens.
4. How RARE is the Silver Shaded or Silver Shelled color in Maine Coon Cats?  I have some old books that briefly mention the existence of the color. Although the color DID exist, about fifteen years ago, it was almost impossible to find a breeder with the color anywhere in the world. Over the last 10 years, there has been an increase in breeders working with the silver shaded/shell color and improvements are being made in the quality of these cats. The color is still difficult to achieve and often seen with a price tag greater than $10,000. It is still RARE to find breeders offering this color!
5. Are Blue-eyed Maine Coons RARE?​ Not solid white Maine Coon Cats with BLUE EYES is rare. This was a genetic mutation was first found in European Maine Coons in the year 2016. This beautiful mutation is still in it's infancy. There are only a few breeders working with blue-eyes worldwide.
6. What is a POLYDACTYL Maine Coon?​ Polydactyl is a genetic mutation that is now considered (and registered) separate from a normal Maine Coon. The polydactyl Maine Coon is a specialty cat with many toes and is a fascination for those who have an appreciation for all things unique! (~or Earnest Hemingway)
